Wonderful old sculpture, carved from wood and painted over gesso, the sculpture depicts an Asian belief of holding the pearl of wisdom. On a square base a hand reaches up with the middle finger and thumb, holding a round ball between it. The piece is been carved from wood with a hand attached to the base. The base has an old blue paint while the hand has natural colors with some red undertones and the small red ball a deep red. There is an overall chippiness to the gesso and the paint with loss of paint colors. All of us can be seen in the picture. There is also a natural occurring fissure that continues down from the pinky and the ring finger. Other naturally occurring fissures are present too. This has a fabulous old world charm to it with a very distressed surface.
